Completion requirements
- The Snake and Ladder game is a strategy to help students build concepts using GAMEPLAY
- The idea/principle is that we win BROWNIE points if we ‘DO RIGHT’ or lose points if we ‘DO WRONG’.
- The board can be used for either recapitulation of concepts or for promoting analytical thinking.
- The Board is used in 2 WAYS- RIGHT/WRONG strategy OR the Analysis Strategy/Decision-Making Strategy
- As per the First Strategy- ANY POSITIVE ACT WILL TAKE YOU UP THE LADDER and ANY NEGATIVE/UNDESIRABLE ACT WILL BRING YOU DOWN THE SNAKE.
- The above strategy can be used when teaching students about HEALTHY FOOD/JUNK FOOD. Students can throw the die and if they come to the bottom of the ladder- healthy food will be shown indicating that it is a GOOD PRACTICE hence the child can move up the ladder. However, if they move to the mouth of a snake an UNHEALTHY FOOD can be shown indicating a wrong practice hence the child moves down the snake. This strategy can be used for FOLLOWING SAFETY/TRAFFIC RULES, MORAL SCIENCE/CHARACTER BUILDING/VALUE EDUCATION/SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING, etc.
- The second strategy is when a question is presented when the student arrives either at the bottom of the ladder or the mouth of the snake. A CORRECT ANSWER WILL GIVE THE STUDENT THE BENEFIT- which is to move up the ladder in case of right answer or NOT MOVE down the snake. If a wrong answer is given, the STUDENT DOES NOT CLIMB UP THE LADDER AND MOVES DOWN THE SNAKE.
- This game ensures the use of one game board for multiple subject enhancement – MATH PROBLEMS, SCIENCE/SST Questions.
- HOW TO PLAY-
- Students in a class can be formed into groups (as many groups as the number of counters on the board (similar to a quiz format)
- Students may also be divided into 2 groups and can play against each other (like a quiz)
- Students may be divided into multiple groups of 4 and each group can be given a board to play.
- Students will start the game by throwing the die. The person who gets 6 will start the game and move the counter to the numbers mentioned on the board.
- The next student throws the die and moves the counter on the board.
- THE OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME IS TO FINISH FIRST. In the course of the game, they engage in concept enrichment through the game strategy.
- When the students come to the bottom of a ladder, or the mouth of a snake is when there is a QUESTION/DECISION MAKING juncture.
