4.2 Speaking Skill Assignment - Instructions

There are 17 topics listed below for your assignments, with some having subtopics.

Choose any 10 from the list. Make sure you don't leave any categories. However, do not choose a number of subtopics at the cost of other main topic questions.

Marking will be done on a rubric, which is available at the end of the document.  

Each question can be marked for 10 marks. Pass mark - 50%

1. Describe your family

2.  All about vegetables

• Do you all eat vegetables?
• Where do you buy the vegetables?
• Are they fresh?
• What do you call a vegetable seller? (Greengrocer or Vendor) A greengrocer is a shopkeeper who sells fruits and vegetables. Vendor- A vendor is someone who sells things.
• Do you have a small weekly vegetable market in your area? (haat, bazaar, santhe, santha, sandai as it is called in different parts of the country)
• Describe what you can get there.

3.  Neighbours/ Neighbourhood

• Who are your neighbours?
• Name some of the people you can find in your neighbourhood. (farmer, postman, teacher, doctor, tailor, shopkeeper, barber)
• How do they help you?

4.  Friends

• Who is your favourite friend?
• Do you have many friends?
• Are you in touch with your childhood friends?
• Who is your best friend in school?
• What do you like about him/ her?

5.  Diet

• What did you have for breakfast today?
• Describe a typical lunch or dinner that you normally have?
• Do you include fruits and vegetables in your diet every day?

6.  In India, every place has a distinct season. Describe the seasons in your town.

8.  The Harvest Festival

• Do you celebrate the harvest festival in your state?
• What is it called?
• Do you have holidays to celebrate the festival?
• How do you celebrate this festival?
• Describe the various customs and practices associated with the festival.

9.  Hobbies

• What do you do during your free time?
• What do you mean by hobby?
• What is your hobby?  Describe it in detail.

10.  Books

• Describe any book which you have read.
• Is that your favourite book?

12.  My Happy Moments. Describe something that makes you happy.

Note: 

• Maintain logical order when you want to talk about the next step. For example, if you are describing a recipe, give the steps in chronological order.
• It’s crucial to explain each step of the action you’re describing because everyone needs to know the reasons behind each action.
• Use specific words when switching to another step (furthermore, then, before, that, initially, next, finally, after that etc.)

15.  Time Travel: Travelling back in time

Students imagine that they have travelled back in time and met a character who lived in the past. It can be a king, a soldier, a merchant, a dancer, a court jester, in short, anyone whom they want to meet.

Students can give a name to the character. You can even create an imaginary conversation with the character and narrate the same. This can include details about food habits, the structure of buildings, dress, school, and general living conditions during ancient times.

16.  Time Travel: Travelling ahead in time

Students imagine that they have travelled ahead of time and met a robot or people who look like aliens. Students can give a name to the character. Create an imaginary dialogue with the character, talk about their hobbies, and ask about what happens in the future age.

17.  Excuses, Excuses - This is a fun activity where the student recalls all the excuses that they can come up with for not doing homework, not studying well, not coming to school, not attending assessments and not completing assignments and any such that they say in the school.
