Meena and Varsha have been friends for six years now. They both work as science teachers in the same school. Last Monday, the HM called for a meeting and said that she has signed a contract with a Science talent development group. The STDG will work with the Science teachers and using some tests, they will identify students with exceptional Science talent. Then, they will work with Meena and Varsha to create some gifted child programs for developing the selected group of students. Both Meena and Varsha had mixed feelings about this, but they said nothing. The STDG team visited the school and gave the students some written tests. Then, they analyzed the test scores and identified six highly talented gifted children. They also called for a meeting with the school management and the Science teachers and gave a lot of tips on how they can make science more interesting to the students. they gave the teachers many ideas on how they can conduct science experiments using easily available materials and make scientific concepts easier to understand. Meena and Varsha took this very differently. Meena loved this interaction and asked a lot of questions, She was thrilled to meet a team of experts and took a lot of useful tips from them on developing scientific temper in her students. Varsha, on the other hand, did not like the idea of an outside team coming and testing her students and finding that more needs to be done to develop their talents. She felt insulted by their suggestions and felt that all this was making her look like a bad science teacher.
