Context
Energy is the key driver of social and economic growth. Access to reliable energy has enabled communities and countries to grow technologically and economically faster than others who lack such access. But, current energy generation and supply systems are mainly centralized and heavily dependent on fossil fuels. This results in dependency on energy imports, the financial burden on governments, loss of energy in transmission and distribution. Moreover, currently, 80-85% of the world's energy needs are being fulfilled with fossil energy, the main cause of global warming andclimate change. Its impacts can be seen in the form of forest fires, floods, heatwaves, and cyclones with increasing intensity and frequency. Renewable energy technologies have evolved to become viable alternative options, but adaption is slow. In general, there is a lack of widespread awareness on energy supply issues, climate change issues, and the availability of alternative solutions.
Purpose
The Energy Literacy Mission aims to educate the masses on an understanding of energy generation and consumption, and its impact on the environment in the context of self, state, and country. In wake of climate change, sustainable living, and sustainability of life, Energy Literacy Mission would enable individuals andinstitutions to make informed decisions on sources of energy to be used andappropriate amounts to be used.
Procedure
The training course consists of 13 modules.
Module 0 is a video giving guidelines for the course.
Module 12 is a video on the conclusion and pledge to be taken.
Module 1 to 11 covers various topics on Solar Literacy and each module will consist of a video to be viewed by the trainee and a question bank to answer the questions. Each module will present randomly five questions for answering.
The passing grade for each module is fixed at 60% and retries are allowed to achieve the passing grade. Only when a trainee achieves passing grade he/she can access the next module and so on. At the end of the quiz of five questions one can see the solutions which will show which question was not correctly answered, if any,so that one can retry to get the right answer.
At the end of all the modules there is a provision for feednback and trainees can record their feedback on the course.
